iPad Air is back! Déjà vu!

Well, not exactly… For this version of iPad Air is much better and slimmer than the one released in 2013.

So, the big apple-sized question is:

Should you upgrade to it?

Honest answer: It depends on your current iPad model.

To Have a Bite or Not

Let’s start by looking at what the iPad Air 2019 has to offer.

First, the body and the design.

The form factor is basically the same to which we’ve become accustomed to over the years. There’s a Touch ID button on the front and a camera on the back. It has thin bezels, though not as thin as offered by Android tablets. And a superstar 10.5 inches laminated screen.

Speaking of screen, the iPad Air 2019 screen comes with fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating and features a 2224 x 1668 resolution display. The display can be adjusted to a maximum brightness of 500 nits. A P3 gamut support ensures true, life-like colors.

In terms of processing power, the iPad Air 2019 packs in plenty of juice. It has got the latest A12 Bionic chip, an embedded M12 coprocessor, 3 GB of RAM and a Neural Engine—in short, all the good stuff.

The battery is pretty impressive too, offering full 10 hours on normal use; however, with on and off usage, it can easily last a day.

What about the cameras, you ask?

Well, the cameras are the same which you get with pretty much all the latest non-pro iPad models; the rear-camera captures images at 8 mega pixels while the front-camera snaps at 7 mega pixels.

Other features include:

  • Apple pencil support
  • Fast charging
  • 64 GB/256 GB storage space
  • Smart keyboard

The price?

At the time of writing this article, the 64 GB WiFi only model was priced at $499, while the 256 GB edition cost $649.

So, should you swap your old iPad with the iPad Air 2019?

  • If you’re upgrading from an iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2 or an iPad released prior to 2016, then it’s a no brainer.
  • If you’re a fan of iPad Pro but don’t have the money to buy it, and can manage with lower specs, the iPad Air 2019 is perfect for you.
